Today’s rising demand for data scientists is proving these predictions right. IBM predicts that 2.7 million data scientist jobs will be created every year between 2018 and 2020. Universities are hurrying to include data science programs in their curriculum to nurture the next generation of scientists. In 2016, at UC Berkeley, 300 students enrolled for the Foundation of Data Sciences program, a number that grew to over 1,000 in 2017. And, they aren’t alone. In 2017, the University of San Diego used a $75 million donation to create a brand new data sciences institute. The growing interest in data sciences is likely to only continue rising in the coming years.
